Literacy is a valuable component of empowerment to break the cycle of poverty.
Mali continues to have low literacy rates, particularly in women. The Alliance partners with 12 schools to provide literacy classes for villagers. The two-year course is offered to adults and teens who do not have the opportunity to continue their education. Each Alliance school has solar panels allowing students to attend classes in the evening while they are not working. The villages take responsibility for the management of the classes and school facilities. while the Alliance facilitates teacher training and provides a stipend for each teacher. This Fall, the Alliance will provide textbooks for each of the 24 teachers. Approximately $15 will provide 4 textbooks for one teacher. Help us give the teachers the resources they need by donating today!
